Place: | Simplonpass (map) |
In the past years, it has been the Simplonpass that got the most snow during
the early season snow falls. Therefore, it comes only natural that the first
ski touring trip every year goes to this location. The terrain around the pass
offers plenty of opportunities for all flavors and in all difficulties.
In particular early in the season, the slopes around Spitzhorli make for great
powder turns. Thus, on this trip, the first day was dedicated to good turns
in this area. The second day, we climbed to Galehorn and discovered a nice
untracked couloir down one of its subsidiary summits. The pictures tell the
powder story.
