The Aiguille de la Republique is an iconic spire that can be seen from the Chamonix valley. Its normal route climbs up the back side (envers des aiguilles) and is an absolute classic must-climb in the region. With its length of 650m it offers mostly easy climbing in good rock and makes for a full day out.
The summit is an obelisk with smooth walls all around. The first ascent party only conquered it by throwing a lasso! Nowadays, there is a bolt ladder up it that can be used to technically climb it.
